BAWA’s third professional demonstrator of 2013 is Mike Mahoney on Saturday
September 7th, which is the 1st Saturday of the month. Mike has been a professional woodturner since 1989 and specializes in production salad bowls, nested bowl sets, hollow forms, burial urns, lidded containers and thread chasing. As an instructor Mike has demonstrated and taught woodturning on various levels in classrooms across the world and has produced several instructional videos to help woodturners of all skill levels. His clear methods, step by step techniques and concise explanations help fellow woodturners to appreciate and create beautiful works on the lathe. Mike also manufactures and sells his line of ine inishes, signature tools and DVD’s, as well as roughed out bowl blanks. Mike recently moved his family to the Sacramento Area, returning to his roots from Utah, where he lived for many years with his wife Jenni on a small farm. Mike built his reputation specializing in production turning utility pieces made from local timber, mostly reclaimed from landills and tree surgeons. He is well known for his skill with the McNaughton coring system, and was the irst to create natural edge nested bowl sets. More recently Mike has focused on technical works which have been on the drawing board for many years.
